Laying the Foundation – CODA’s History

In 2007, CODA (Co)Founder and President, Jennifer Byrden, was working in corporate finance for a large company in Denver. This was a foundational experience that uniquely prepared her to create CODA. As she entered the pivotal transition of motherhood, she felt called to invest in herself, even if it meant taking a risk.

Around that same time, Jennifer was introduced to someone who had run a custom home business and worked in tenant improvement. He had a vision to create his own construction company in Colorado and needed someone who could bring structure, process and business operations to the table. With a background in accounting and finance, and roots in a family-owned auto repair business, Jennifer partnered with him to bring the vision to life.

By the time CODA officially launched in 2008, the recession was looming, but the team trusted their instincts and didn’t shy away from the challenge.

CODA Construction Group is a Denver-based commercial general contractor specializing in tenant finish projects. From day one, our mission has been simple: take the stress off our clients and deliver smart, thoughtful solutions—every step of the way.

We started small—just two founders and a superintendent—wearing all the hats and figuring it out one job at a time. Over the years, we’ve grown to a team of nearly 30, completing over 2,600 projects across corporate offices, common areas, amenities, medical and dental offices, surgery centers, vision clinics, industrial buildings and retail spaces.

Despite our growth, our foundation hasn’t changed. We believe in doing things with intention, efficiency and care—for both the work and the people. We’ve built a culture and operational structure that doesn’t always resemble a traditional construction company—and that’s by design.

At CODA, we’ve developed processes that prioritize problem-solving and accountability. We’re known for delivering projects on time and on budget, even in challenging conditions, because we stay solutions-oriented and focused on what matters most.

Above all, we lead with relationships. Whether we’re working with clients, architects, designers, subcontractors or our own team, we prioritize clear communication, strong collaboration and high-quality results you can count on.
